single-pass digital printing machine for tableware decoration Creaware

Creaware: the single-pass digital printing machine that makes precision become a pattern

Digital decoration is reshaping the tableware industry, where manufacturers require processes that combine refined aesthetics with industrial reliability, while maintaining quality stable and high productivity.

System Digital has entered this sector with Creaware, a single-pass digital printing machine designed specifically for tableware decoration. The solution reflects consolidated expertise in digital printing and ceramic processes, offering a reliable platform for high-quality decoration.

A strategic expansion into tableware

System Digital, has progressively expanded its technologies across different industrial sectors, building on a solid and ongoing presence in digital printing for glass applications. Alongside this core activity, the company has extended its expertise into additional fields, such as tableware decoration.

The introduction of Creaware in 2025 marks a further step in this evolutionary path, strengthening System Digital’s role in decorative applications that require both aesthetic accuracy and production discipline. This positioning combines digital printing expertise with ceramic process knowledge developed within the broader System Ceramics ecosystem, particularly in the interaction between inks, materials and firing cycles.

This industrial heritage provides a solid foundation for entering the tableware market with a solution designed to deliver both visual refinement and operational reliability.

The challenges of tableware decoration

Tableware decoration presents different technical challenges to be addressed. The sector must manage a wide variety of shapes, formats and surface geometries, while ensuring that graphics remain precisely aligned and visually uniform across production runs. Process repeatability is therefore essential to prevent defects, reduce scrap and maintain production efficiency.

The main challenges faced involve handling variations in shapes and geometries while achieving precise and repeatable decoration positioning, sustaining stable printing performance over long runs despite large production volumes, reproducing complex graphic styles with high-definition image quality and managing costs through reduced waste and optimized ink consumption. Addressing these factors requires a decoration system that combines precision, automation and process stability.

Creaware: a digital pass printing machine

Creaware was designed to serve the tableware sector with a cutting-edge offering. The machine is based on a single-pass digital printing architecture that enables high production speed while maintaining detailed image quality and precise decoration placement.

Creaware integrates Seiko RC1536 high-resolution printheads, capable of producing graphics at 360 dpi. This configuration allows detailed decorative patterns, fine lines and rich color compositions to be reproduced with clarity and uniformity across entire production runs.

The system is engineered to handle a wide range of graphic styles and intricate color variations, while maintaining stable productivity and reliable output.

One of the key technological elements of Creaware is Creavision, an advanced vision-based auto-centering system entirely designed and developed in-house. Before printing, the camera reads each piece and dynamically rotates the artwork to match its exact orientation on the conveyor.

This dynamic printing capability ensures precise placement, full coverage with controlled drops, and reduced ink consumption.

The system also allows the machine to adapt automatically to different formats in real time, making it possible to switch between product types without interrupting the production line.

Stability through advanced ink management

Stable ink delivery is essential for a stable printing performance.

Creaware incorporates a fully controlled ink management architecture designed to maintain optimal operating conditions throughout the printing process. The platform integrates four independent recirculation systems that continuously circulate the ink, preventing pigment sedimentation and ensuring stable flow to the printheads.

Ink temperature is automatically controlled to maintain consistent viscosity, which is crucial for accurate drop formation and color stability. In addition, the machine performs timed automatic cleaning cycles that keep the printheads in optimal condition, reducing the risk of nozzle clogging and ensuring reliable operation over extended production periods.

Workflow integration and production efficiency

Creaware is designed to integrate smoothly into industrial tableware production lines while maintaining continuous production flow, with a distinctive advantage in line integration: multiple digital printers can operate on the same production line, enabling combinations of digital glazes, decorations, and integrated dry applications. This modularity allows full industrial control while expanding creative possibilities.

The decoration process consists of four main stages:

  1. Loading: tableware items are positioned on the conveyor system.
  2. Image scanning and alignment: the Creavision camera reads each piece and aligns the artwork accordingly.
  3. Digital printing: the decoration is applied through the single-pass printing module.
  4. Unloading: decorated items continue to the next phase of the production process.

The digital pass printing machine uses a belt conveyor with a width of up to 400 mm and supports different tableware formats, enabling manufacturers to manage diversified production lines. Typical productivity levels demonstrate the system’s industrial performance:

Product type

Production capacity

150 mm diameter plate

Up to 100 pieces per minute

250 mm diameter plate

Up to 65 pieces per minute

400 mm diameter plate

Up to 50 pieces per minute

Serving plate 355×200 mm

Up to 80 pieces per minute

Creaware supports printing on various ceramic materials used in tableware manufacturing, including bone china, fine china, stoneware, earthenware and porcelain. Through integrated pre-heating and post-heating systems, the machine can operate in both in-glaze and on-glaze decoration processes.

An optional backstamp unit can also be integrated to enable marking on the reverse side of the tableware.
